Marizanne Kapp, born on January 4, 1990, in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa, is a distinguished South African international cricketer renowned for her all-round capabilities. Kapp, a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium-fast bowler, has been a pivotal player for the South Africa national women’s cricket team.

Her aggressive bowling nature and consistent batting have contributed significantly to her team’s successes. Notably, she was the first South African woman to achieve a hat-trick in a Women’s Twenty20 International match.

Kapp’s cricket career is marked by several milestones and records. She played her 100th Women’s One-Day International (WODI) match against Pakistan in May 2019, becoming the third South African player to reach this milestone.

In the 2018 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, she was the top run-scorer for South Africa, amassing 98 runs in four matches. Kapp’s T20I career boasts impressive statistics: 56 wickets at an average of 20.50, an economy rate of 5.39, and best figures of 4-6. As a batsman, she has scored 857 runs in T20Is with a strike rate of 94.90.

In addition to her international achievements, Kapp has been a significant player in various T20 leagues, including the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), where she represented Sydney Sixers. During her 70 matches for Sydney, Kapp took 77 wickets at an economy rate of 5.18, with best figures of 4-18, and scored 637 runs with a strike rate of 101.11.

Her contributions extend beyond the cricket field. Kapp’s journey in cricket began with a family deeply ingrained in fitness, which played a crucial role in her development as an athlete. She has also been outspoken about her personal life, marrying Dane van Niekerk, the captain of South Africa’s national team, in July 2018. They made history by becoming the first married couple to bat together in an ICC tournament.

Kapp holds several records in Women’s One-Day Internationals, including the most runs conceded in a career (3652), the most balls bowled in a career (5748), and achieving the highest individual score for South Africa in a women’s Test match (150 runs).
